Devika Narayan
1.If you could make one rule that everyone in the world had to follow, what would it be?
I would not change my name. This is because I was born during the festival Diwali, or the festival of lights, meaning the significance behind my name holds a special place in my heart. Also, Devika, in Sanskrit means “little goddess”, which is something I strive to be every day in the way I express myself 😉. Finally, it’s so unique to me, so really my name, Devika, is the only embodiment of me!
2.If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
My favorite day of the week has to be Wednesday because this is the day I get to visit the Memory Care I volunteer for on a weekly basis. There I am able to play my harp for Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. To see a smile or even a hand-clap is enough to make my day, as I know that my music has reached my listeners in a way that only music can.
3.When do you feel a child or teen becomes an adult?
As I child, I really loved all Disney movies, but Mulan really stuck with me. Mulan’s strength, perseverance, and courage really taught me the truth about the power of a girl. She was able to conquer and overcome all the obstacles she was faced with while also encouraging and leading her fellow army mates. All of these admirable qualities really made me look up to Mulan as well as love the movie!
4.What do you feel you have learned in life that will be the most useful?
My favorite sport has to be dance. I have been an Indian dancer for 12 years now, being trained in 4 different styles of dance. Dance has been able to teach me discipline as well as how to express myself through rhythm and movement. The countless amount of lessons I have learned from dance have impacted me in more than just a sequence of steps, they have shed light to what hard work really means.
